2MASS galaxies in 7 < Kmag < 9

GALPHAT run for ~450 K band 2MASS galaxies over a magnitude range from 7 to 9 is completed. I briefly cross correlate them with SDSS imaging catalog in NYUVAGC and 30% of my 2MASS sample has SDSS counterparts. That seems to be reasonable considering sky coverage of 2MASS and SDSS DR6. However fraction of 2MASS sources having SDSS spectroscopic sample reduces to 10%. DR6 imaging and spectroscopic sky coverage is 9938 sq deg and 6750 sq deg respectively. 67% of imaging source has spectroscopic information. 30% times 67% is 20%.

Thus rough calculation shows that 20% of 2MASS sources has spectroscopic counterparts in SDSS spectroscopic sample. For my samples which is very bright (7<K<9) and probably nearby, this cross correlation with SDSS spectroscopic sample is only 10%. A bit disappointed result.
