Alex Pope’s talk

Yesterday’s speaker Alex Pope talked about the submm galaxy population. Based on multi-wavelength study(from radio to IR), the average SED of 11 high redshift submm galaxies in GOODS is well approximated by star burst dominated galaxy not by AGN dominated galaxy. So submm galaxies might be in between major merger and AGN phase in the context of standard massive galaxy evolution scenario proposed by Dave Sanders in 1980s.

Major merger of gas rich disk galaxies causes the intense star formation and then start to feed central black hole after dust enshrouded submm galaxy phase. However to study submm galaxies using multi-wavelength observation, the cross-identification is important and it is difficult. I was hoping that she had more time to explain her way of cross-identification.
